Valio LTD
History
Valio, which means ‘excellent quality’, was founded in 1905 by a cooperative of dairy farmers in Finland. The company’s first product was high-quality butter that was exported to the UK.
Developing a broad range of dairy products, Valio grew rapidly while staying true to four fundamental beliefs: offer the most delicious, highest quality dairy products; treat the livestock ethically and humanely; demonstrate stewardship toward the land; and treat employees with kindness and respect.
Today
Valio is a world-class leader in pioneering functional foods in fields such as lactose free dairy, probiotics, heart health, and weight management. Additionally, Valio offers a wide range of market-leading products known for their high quality and great taste in over 60 countries.
Valio is owned by 22 dairy cooperatives that represent approximately 10,000 dairy farmers. Sales were $2.3BN in 2008 and the company employs 4,300 personnel.
Valio’s continued strength is attributed to a culture of stringent quality control, consistent investment in research and development, and effective brand management.
